Major Tunage

Merrill Garbus is the brains and the lungs behind the lo-fi experimental project known as Tune-Yards. She records her voice with a digital voice recorder and shareware mixing software and combines it with found sounds, ukulele, percussion and the results are quite unlike anything I’ve ever heard. It’s dreamy and dancey and a tad spacey. She reminds me a little bit of Bjork but with a soulful edge to her voice. She added a couple musicians to her one-person group and signed with 4AD Records a couple years ago. Tune-Yards has two releases to date.
